Odisha batswoman Madhuri Meheta made a successful debut in one-day international cricket, helping India beat West Indies by 76 runs in the first of the three-match series at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts yesterday. Opening the batting with Sulakshana Naik, Madhuri made 23 off 59 balls and hit one boundary.
Riding on a half-century each by Mithali Raj and Asha Sharma, India compiled a competitive total of 179 for seven in 50 overs. In reply, host West Indies were bowled out for 103 in 46.5 overs.
Madhuri, who hails from Bolangir, earlier on February 27, became the first international woman cricketer of Odisha by representing India in the fifth and last T20 international at the same venue. Though Madhuri was out for zero off seven balls in her international debut, India won the match by six wickets to reduce the margin of defeat of defeat in the T20 series to 2-3.
